A Day in the Life of a Candle Maker
Running a candle business is a lot more than just pouring wax into jars. It’s a mix of creativity, hard work, and a little bit of magic! Let me take you behind the scenes of what a typical day looks like for me as a candle maker.
My mornings usually start with a cup of coffee and checking orders from the previous day. I love seeing which scents people are drawn to and imagining the spaces my candles will brighten. Once I’m caught up on messages and packing slips, it’s time to head into my workspace.
The heart of my day is all about creating. I start by melting the wax and prepping the jars and wicks. This step is calming—there’s something so soothing about watching the wax transform. Then comes the fun part: blending fragrances. This is where my creativity really shines as I mix oils to create the perfect scent. It’s a bit like cooking, but for your nose!
Once the candles are poured and left to cool, I shift gears. Labeling and packaging are next, and I put as much care into this step as I do into making the candles themselves. I want every unboxing to feel like a little gift, even if it’s something you bought for yourself.
Afternoons are for brainstorming new ideas, testing blends, and working on content for social media or the blog (like this one!). It’s a balance of hands-on work and dreaming up what’s next for the business.
The day wraps up with one final check on orders and a tidy-up of the workspace. Then, it’s time to light one of my own candles, relax, and reflect on the day.
Every day is busy, but it’s so rewarding to know that my candles might be lighting up someone’s evening or bringing a little peace to their home. Thanks for taking a peek into my world—I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoy sharing it with you!
With love,
Home with Hunny
